Erh, this will seem odd but why are some users' avatar so big and mine so small.  How may I unshrink my avatar?

Oh and if this post is not at the right place, please move it, I was not too sure where to ask...

kanmuri all you have to do is resize ur image on an imagehost site or do it in photoshop by increasing the image size. Otherwise, you'll just have to make a bigger banner, but either way is fine :D

tinkchick555, two things. Firstly, the reason why you may not be able to play the file properly is because you're missing a codec or something of the like. Do you have DivX codec? in fact, i was just recommending this to my friend the other day, to get a codec PACK off the internet, like Cole2k.Media - Codec.Pack.V6.0.8 - which allows me to do SO MUCH STUFF with my video & audio files, like picking up soft subs & putting them on the video when you view it without having hard subs. Secondly, just informing u as moderator cause it's part of my job, but because your question has no relevance to the topic kanmuri posted, can i ask that next time you create a new topic for it? Thnx a bunch  :x):

Hope this helps you guys  :gd:

well aniera-san... i don't reall use special programs. i just use adobe photoshop for icons and signatures (see mine below). just play around it, and experiment with your creativity. i don't think i can help you with the winamp skins though. if you want to make a "flashing" icon, try adobe imageready. you can make animated gifs there. :)

hope this helps.

I think there is something wrong with the Signature/Banner in the modifying forum profile information section, it won't allow me to edit nor to type anything more than 1 letter/number/character hence the inability to customize or do anything with it. I don't think signatures/banners were disabled since the other members still have their respective signatures/banners. I hope to be enlightened with this issue, please and thanks.

I don't think signatures/banners were disabled since the other members still have their respective signatures/banners. I hope to be enlightened with this issue, please and thanks.

That's because there's a new rule amended sometime in early November that none of the members and some staff (including myself) were aware of until late month. As of last month no signatures are allowed, and that the signatures have been disabled. The disabling of the signature only applies to new members and current members who modified their profiles. Those who haven't been here or haven't touched their profiles still have their signatures intact.

The reason being because there are several active members who were not following the signature rules (ie. animated signatures, signature images that are way too large and are over exceeding the limited size, basically members abusing the signature section for their crazy overloading of images, etc.). The server hosting this forum is really limiting on bandwidth and that we have to be careful on keeping the bandwidth under the limit or else the site will go down again like the last time. Apparently the staff found that it seems not very many members are either aware or the issue, don't understand the issue, or simply don't care about the issue. Thus, the staff had no choice but to disable the signatures altogether.

I've been working with Xiaowanzi regarding the signatures problem and we decided that the best way to be able to keep users to use signatures is to disallow any image signatures period. This includes the overusage of smilies and so on and so forth. I use the signature myself to link up my sites & blogs (for self-plugging of course) in text and if applicable, one image sig that's small enough but also big enough for everyone can see. I'm for disabling the usage of images altogether, especially animated images, but I still have yet to hear/have consensus from the rest of the staff if they're okay with this proposition.

Will update you guys when there's another change. :)

Yes I've noticed the bandwidth limit problems towards the end of Arashian last year which made me worry about the site's condition since I'm also into IT and Web Development. I do agree however that not most members were informed as to why we exactly had bandwidth issues and well I guess we members are also to blame for that.

Nevertheless I want to thank you for promptly informing me of the issue and that I understand the current predicament at hand, let me just say that I will support whatever the decision may be regarding the banners/signatures after all having a banner or not does not make me any less of a fan. :3

Thank you again for taking time to answer my concern ^^

Just get one idea or suggestion: how about limit the size? and only allow use only one picture if they really want to use image be the signature?   I know Youtube was limit size before when you want to change the background image. (although they allow repeat the image.)

It jump out of my mind yesterday when I went to change the background image for my YT a/c. Hope you don't mind about this suggestion, it is ok for me if you think this is not good for this site.  :yes:

Thanks for the suggestion. It's a good suggestion but sadly it's impossible with SMF. I'm a total n00b w/ PHP (I'm still slowly learning and I'm still on the "Hello, world!" stage -.-; ) and there aren't any pre-coded mods available that has that capability. It may be possible w/ CSS coding but I need to do some testing with this one. At the moment (or if CSS doesn't work), I'm afraid it's either no images on sigs or no sigs at all (I prefer the former).

In addition, even with size limitations, it's also highly likely that users are going to abuse the sigs again with overusage of images (and that includes overusage of smilies too), especially animated images, and we all know that animated images in general are major bandwidth killers (though in a way some users just don't care or aren't aware). I'd write a whole essay of explanation as to how animated images can take so much bandwidth but I don't want to bore you all. ^^;

Sorry about this. You'll just have to be patient with is. ^^

PHP is awesome once you get the hang of it, all the things you can manipulate with it is just <3 ah ignore my ramblings I am still on high with my former Web Development and Multimedia classes :x): If you need help in PHP I might be able to contribute something if not much ^^;

Animated images are amazing and cool but they use up too much space, it's either there will be proper coding to restrict the use of images altogether or someone has to be constantly up and about to check that rules regarding sigs are strictly being followed (which is a lot of work ~.~) or possibly both can be applied to service the matter. In a personal note concerning this issue I would prefer no sigs than having it kill the site again >.<
