This is one of the reasons why Arashi have been on the down low this year, why the 'Beautiful World' Tour has a big gap in between and why Jun has no tv drama lined up for him so far. ^^
Jun will play a
boxer in the stage play, 「あゝ、荒野」
'Aa, Kouya' (Ah, Wilderness). It will be the first theatrical adaptation of a 1966 novel of the same name by Terayama Shuuji.
The story revolves around two boxers of different personalities and their unexpected friendship.
Jun plays the rough and wild Shinjuku Shinji (新宿新次) while Koide Keisuke (from Rookies drama) takes on the role of a stammering young boxer Barikan (バリカン).
Jun has been preparing for his role and building up his body since March. ^^
In this play, Jun is reunited with stage director Ninagawa Yukio who he had previously worked with in 2006's Byakuya no warukyuure (Valkyrie).
Ninagawa is more associated with directing Shakespeare plays and Greek tragedies and had took his productions abroad.
For this play, he wanted to raise the hurdle up and have Jun step up with his acting. He owns his own acting studio and you can read more about him here:
http://www.ninagawastudio.net/English/E-about.html
The play will be staged at two venues.
